Low Back Pain (LBP)

LOW BACK PAIN (LBP)

Low Back Pain is pain in the lower back area, between the edge of the lowest ribs and the lower buttock fold. This pain can occur in adults, both women and men aged 30-50 years. Low Back Pain can reduce a person's work productivity and cause disability.

Causes of low back pain:

Musculoskeletal disorders are nerve and muscle disorders that occur in the spine as a result of incorrect activities including using force to carry out an activity, such as lifting, pushing, pulling or carrying heavy objects.
Infection
Inflammation
Tumors/neoplasms

There are several risks that can increase the risk of LBP, these are:

Obesity
Rarely exercise
Not stretching
Wrong body posture and bending over for too long while working.

SYMPTOMS & SIGNS

Depending on the cause, symptoms may vary:

sharp or dull pain
feel hot
pain at one point or all over the lower back area occurs suddenly or gradually
May be accompanied by spasm or muscle stiffness
Can be associated with symptoms in the legs: pain, numbness, tingling  and weakness

SUPPORTING INVESTIGATION

-Plain X-ray

- CT (Computed Tomography)

- MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging to see soft tissue, abnormalities in the spinal cord

- EMG (electromyogram) to evaluate nerve function

Treatment :

-Giving pain-reducing drugs such as analgesics, anti-inflammatories, muscle relaxants, neurotropics

-Rest with bed rest for 2-3 days

- Physiotherapy is carried out for Low Back Pain patients who can still be treated with a rehabilitation program that is able to restore the strength of the lower back muscles so that complaints of Low Back Pain can slowly be resolved.

How to Prevent Low Back Pain

Low Back Pain can be prevented by maintaining correct body posture during activities in daily life. For example, by sitting and standing straight so that your back doesn't hurt. Pay attention to your body posture when lifting weights. Diligently exercising according to your ability and accompanied by a healthy diet, the risk of Low Back Pain will be light.
