Be Aware of Foods and Drinks That Trigger Cancer

The relationship between cancer and diet is still difficult to formulate. Many studies are aimed at determining foods that cause or can trigger cancer.

Some factors that cause cancer are difficult to change, such as genetic factors, the environment, etc. However, diet is one of the causes of cancer that can be controlled. Certain foods and drinks can increase the risk of developing cancer in the body, especially if consumed too often.

The following types of food can trigger cancer, including:

  • Alcohol

In the body, alcohol is metabolized into acetaldehyde, a compound that can damage cell DNA and cause cancer.
The more alcohol you consume, the higher your risk of developing cancer, including colorectal, breast and liver cancer
Some experts recommend not consuming alcohol, while others recommend limiting alcoholic drinks to no more than one serving per day, which is equivalent to 360 ml of beer, 150 cc of wine or 30 cc of whiskey.

  • Processed meat

These include sausages, meatballs, hot dogs, pepperoni, canned meat, often using ingredients to preserve or process them. Associated primarily with cancer of the stomach and intestines.
Consuming 1 sausage per day can increase a person's risk of colorectal cancer by up to 18%.

  • Grilled or grilled meat

Red meat that is cooked at high temperatures will cause the formation of carcinogens which can damage DNA and cause cancer, especially colorectal, pancreatic and prostate cancer.

  • Red meat

Examples are cows, goats, sheep and pigs.
Consuming large amounts of red meat ( > 100 grams per week)  is associated with colon, pancreas and prostate cancer

  • Marinated  fish

Salting is a traditional way to preserve food. Salted fish will produce carcinogens that cause cancer in humans. This type of fish is often consumed in China and southeast Asia

  • Sweet and Fizzy Drinks.

Although sugar has not been proven to cause cancer directly, this type of drink can cause obesity which is a risk for various types of cancer

To prevent and reduce the risk of developing cancer, it is important to live a healthy lifestyle and stay away from foods and drinks that trigger cancer. Routinely consuming healthy foods such as fiber foods and foods rich in antioxidants, exercising diligently, quitting smoking, and undergoing regular medical check-ups to the doctor on a regular basis are cancer prevention steps that can be taken by many people.
